The book of Hebrews was written to people under pressure. They were being pressured by outward persecutions, especially by Jews most likely, and pressured to return back to the old ways, the Old Covenant including the dietary and religious laws. The writer to the Hebrews throughout his letter makes a powerful case that Jesus has fulfilled, surpassed, and even overwritten the Old Covenant of the Law. He says Let us Hold on Firmly to our Hope. That is what we should consider this evening, Hold Fast to a New Covenant, and Hold Fast to one another in love.
